Objective
Gallium Phosphate (GaPO4) is a new piezoelectric crystal material which is superior to quartz for the most ambitious applications, like sensors for high temperature applications up to 970°C, high precision clocks in cardiac pacemakers or telecommunication base stations, high efficiency filters for mobile telephones, and highly sensitive biosensors for medical or nanotechnical applications. The main objectives are methods for the growth of wafers of these outstanding crystals usable for micromechanical fabrication techniques. The basic techniques for the chemical machining and modeling of micro devices based on GaPO4 should be investigated and demonstrated on nanobalance affinity biosensors. New methods for continuous emission monitoring and rheometry for process control should demonstrate the high technological potential of this functional material.
