Objective
Field assisted sintering (FAST) is an emerging technology for the fabrication of metals, ceramics and their composites starting from powders. It has the potential of densifying powders with nanosize or nanostructure while avoiding the coarsening which accompanies standard densification routes. A major aim of this project is to increase the accessibility of this technology in Europe by creating a European provider of equipment. Flexible equipment will be designed and built allowing several modes of operation which till now can not be found in any other single installation. Another goal is to evaluate the application of FAST in the development of nanostructured materials and composites, specifically very high hardness materials and light weight wear resistant materials for transport applications. The processing of functionally graded materials is also part of the workprogramme.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
