Objective
The project develops novel technologies for production of value-added food packages and composites based on renewable materials by enzymatic and chemo-enzymatic methods. The generic goal of the project is to develop widely applicable novel technologies. Enzymes needed in the fiber modification will be selected, characterized and produced in pilot scale with an optimized strain. The adhesion of fibers with biopolymers will be improved by direct radical binding, hydrophobisation or bridging by using enzymatic and chemo-enzymatic methods. The effects will be analyzed. The most promising fibers will be converted in laboratory scale with biopolymers for load bearing composite materials and food packaging materials. Case studies with prototypes will be used to demonstrate the potential of the materials in composite and food packaging materials and to evaluate their economical and environmental competitiveness.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
