Objective
EU innovation in the development and testing of materials for biomedical use is predominantly supported through the Growth Programme, but also through the Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources Programme. Fifteen projects in this area, assessed as already matching EU policy and Programme objectives and currently under various stages of completion, are being presented 'ex-ante' by the establishment of this European Biomaterials Thematic Network, MEDEVMATNET, project. Other projects presently under evaluation will be incorporated 'ex-post'. Twenty such projects have already been brought together through a targeted research action project (BRE2-CT94-1378) and thematic research network project, EURBIOMAT (BRRT-CT97-5008).
