Objective
An important market sector of the future will be injection molding of small-batch plastic parts for house hold, communication and investive goods industries. The problem to be overcome here are related to high throughput time and extensive costs for manufacturing of dies and moulds, made from metal or ceramics. An innovative approach consists of a new hybrid machine tool concept, integrated high speed spindle controller, modular applicable LASER or water jet cutting technology and a non-contact sensor system for on-line compensation and calibration. The RDT work will also address a machining parameter data-base and quick geometrical handling of pieces and significantly strengthen the SME assets in machinery, tooling and the end-user performance for mould and die industries.
