Development of new ultra high performance light cementitious composites

Objective

This R&D project consists in the design of new light-weight and ultra-high performance concrete, thanks to the combination of ultrahigh performance matrix with light aggregates. It is intended to develop new products of Fer in the field of "light concrete" with also mechanical properties corresponding to the field of ultra high performance concrete.
The objectives to achieve are:
- densities in the range 800 to 1 200 kg/m3 (50 % to 70 % weight reduction compared to existing concrete);
- resistance level up to 150 MPa in compression;- resistance level up to 30.40 MPa in flexure. This development is based on 3 main concepts:
- Use of ultra high performance matrix;
- Use of specific light aggregates included in the ultra high performance matrix;
- Addition of small metal fibers in order to ensure a good ductility of the material. Moreover, the new material to be developed will have incontestably positive impact on environment :
- decrease of the CO2 emissions because less cement is required, the manufacture of 1 tone of cement generating 1 tone of CO2,
- decrease of the raw materials consumption,- increase of the durability

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
