Combating and prevention of concrete cancer in metal reinforced concrete

Objective

Decay of concrete in floors, bridge spans, columns, etc. is a serious problem. It is caused by chlorides and penetration of water in metal reinforced concrete. The long term effects are very serious, since the construction looses its strength. Reparation is expensive. So prevention of decay of concrete is very important. A method to prevent decay of concrete is cathodic prevention (cp). For cpit is necessary to connect all the parts of the metal reinforcement in order to generate a potential difference between the reinforcement (cathode) and a metal anode bar. This process charges the environment by delivery of metal-ions. The objective of the project is to set-up Co-operative Research for the development of a new technique by means of the combination of cp and electro-osmosis, which effects fluid movement in concrete, it is to expect that this new technique will improve highly the present technique of cp: the use of energy will be reduced considerably, the costs of installation are lower, the constructional aspects are rather simple, there is no charge of the environment, less disturbance during repair ands reduction of concrete cover in tunnels, walls etc.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
