Development of new environment friendly industrial ceramics

Objective

Materials science knowledge and preliminary laboratory tests revealed that a ceramic like material, mullite, can be produced by solid state transformation under the effect of pressure, temperature and time silica (from slate powder) reacting with alumina produced by thermal decomposition of aluminum hydroxide (major constituent of aluminum sludges) The main general objective of this project is to produce a new industrial ceramic material using aluminum sludges from anodizing industries and slate powders from slate quarries and transformers as raw materials. Different types of products will be investigated with improved performances, like roofing and flooring tiles (using the high surface adherence observed) to high resistance technical components, in a clear multisectoral application for products.
