Biodegradable bone glue for skeletal repair

Objective

A large number of implant is available for osseous repair, and fresh autogenous bone grafts are preferred because of their compatibility. However there are several disadvantages associated with the use of autogenous bone, especially due to the limited supply at any one donor site and the added morbidity associated with its harvest (wound problems, permanent sensory loss...). This project aims to develop a new polyurethane polymer as a hard tissue adhesive for fractured bone The new biomaterial will ensure a best security compared with current procedures, as it eliminates the risk of transmission diseases due to foreign bone and the drawbacks linked to multi-chirurgical procedures.
The following R&D actions will be carried out:
- To examine that the biomaterial comes into contact with tissues and biological fluids
- To ensure that the repositioned bone fragments adhered well to their original sites
- To develop a controllable degradative process: study of the mode of degradation and excretion of the biomaterial
- To promote bone reconstruction (osteoinduction). It will be also necessary to develop a new approach, procedures and surgery technique.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
