Objective
The target of the Slate-Plastic-Project is the development of a new compound material for roofing and siding. Currently the slate-tile roofing is used world-wide for roofing and siding. Each year the amount of slate (-waste) produced causes serious environmental impact. The main insertion substances for the Slate-Plastic are e.g. slate waste and recycled Polyethylene. The better material properties (e.g. cutting, fixing and forming (design) ) of the Slate-Plastic results in better handling and shorter installation times for roofing and siding. The low price product (slate quarry waste and plastic waste) renders a competitive building product. The European character of the project is the common challenge to reduce environmental impact and encourage recycling into commercial products. The development of the Slate-Plastic enables the participants to launch an innovative product with a potential high rate of economic growth in the European market .
