Objective
MARS is an RTD project whose objective is to develop a photoreflectante spectrometer instrument for high precision semiconductor band gap and stress measurement, with capabilities for polarized light operation, reflectance anisotropy measurement and microspot analysis. This will result, after exploitation of the project outputs, in a new product for the SME-dominated precision instrumentation industry. Exploitation will occur in the short-to-medium term, with the initial instrument being augmented by the exploitation of additional items arising from more advanced outputs of the MARS project, including a micro beam PR head. MARS addresses Generic Activity "Measurements and Testing" within the Specific Programme "Competitive and Sustainable Growth". MARS will result in Europe producing the world's only commercial photo reflectance spectrometer whose exploitation will give the high value compound and epitaxial semiconductor industries a competitive advantage.
