Objective
Molecular genetic testing involves the analysis of DNA for sequence changes. There has been a huge increase in the use of such tests in recent years. With such explosive growth in the application of a new technology for medical use, concerns about the quality and accuracy of the test results must arise. Reference materials (RMs) are used in laboratory analysis to ensure that tests are producing the correct result. Certified reference materials (CRMs) are RMs whose characteristics have been fully documented and validated. No CRMs are available for molecular genetic testing. This project will explore the production of various types of CRM for a range of molecular genetic tests. The prototype RMs will be validated by experienced genetics laboratories, and will be characterized by reference institutions before extensive field trials. The results will be used to develop guidelines for the production of CRMs for any molecular genetic test.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
