Feasibility study for certified reference materials for organic components in sewage sludge

Objective

As a consequence of the revision of the European sludge directive, where limit values for certain organic compounds will be set, a need for general acceptance of laboratory results produced throughout the EC (including the candidate member states) has developed. In response to this need, a feasibility study on CRM production and certification will be carried out. The consortium members carry expertise on determination of the relevant compound groups in sludge as well as on exploitation and dissemination of certified reference materials. Selected candidate sludges will be investigated for their suitability as reference materials, and taken through a production and test certification procedure. The production process an techniques will be described in detail, and a Technical Implementation Plan will show how the new knowledge will be explicated.
