Ultasonic diagnostic system to develop a non-destructive control for ornamental stones - uds

Objective

The research aims at developing an investigation method for detecting structural anomalies and inner defects in marble and granite blocks slabs and tiles. The objective of the proposed activity is the realization of an electronic system able to produce images for defects characterization (size location and growth direction). The system enables ornamental stone quality to be automatically determined in non-destructive way thereby saves costs in transporting poor quality blocks and allows a better planning of industrial activities accordingly. An ultrasonic investigation method will be developed and set up. Different section images are produced for different array locations and a qualitative three-dimensional view can be reconstructed for the sample stone. An experimental DB of ultrasonic information will be correlated to chemical-physical and mechanical characteristics of marble granite and natural stone. UDS will be integrative for the quality classification of ornamental stones.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
