Automatic 3d scanning for design and inspection using non-contact sensors

Objective

In this project we propose that rapid physical non-contact inspection which produces dense point clouds , point cloud surfacing tools , and point cloud to CAD inspection tools are necessary techniques within the modern mechanical design process. We intend to adapt existing well proven non=contact technology so that it can be utilized by the large base of existing positioning systems, this will be achieved through the development of common interfaces using common open standards. To further improve productivity intelligent scanning algorithms will be developed to fully automate the scanning procedure.
The automation of the scanning process will allow manufacturing industry to decrease:
(l) the human operator intervention in the measurement process by 90%;
( 2) the product development times by 50%,
(3) the design costs, by 50%, and the time taken to inspect manufactured parts by 60%:' Moreover' it allows largely increasing the design quality and the build quality and the build quality of manufactured parts.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
