Objective
The aim of this proposal is to improve the existing use of reflected ultrasonic signals in the extrusion process in such a way, that it will be possible to obtain a true 100 % quality control and process monitoring on single-layer as well as multi-layer products in plastic extrusion. The essential part of this proposal is the combination of existing ultrasonic technology with advanced computerized digital signal processing and then use this on-line in the extrusion process. This is to be done by an analogue to digital conversion of the signal and a subsequent exploitation of the opportunities provided by the digital signal. It will make it possible dramatically to improve the on-line inspection and closed loop control of extruded products, primarily extruded pipes and cables. The 100 % inspection will guarantee better quality of the manufactured product, less scrap during the production and also ensure a leakage free product during the extended lifetime of the extruded product.
