Objective
Delta Services Industries in Belgium is a small-medium sized enterprise (SME) established in 2000 and working in the field of wear and corrosion measurements with applications in the automotive, lubricant and aeronautical industries. The wear and corrosion measurements performed by DSI involve labeling the surface material using the high-energy beam from a particle accelerator. This thin layer activation technology, called TLA, is currently mainly applied to metallic surface but is not yet developed for polymers and ceramics. The training research area of this Fellowship will be focused on the development of new methodologies for measurement and testing of polymer wear adapting these original techniques based on implantation of radioactive ^7Be ions. For this research, DSI will be assisted by the laboratory POLY of the UCL and CERTECH, a technological centre based in Seneffe, Belgium. Both institutions are active in polymer, wear and irradiation fields and provide basic and applied research and development services to many industrial clients, Applicants (who should comply with the requirements for Marie Curie Fellowships) should be graduated and fulfill the requirements to start a PhD in polymer sciences. Knowledge in one of the following fields would be an asset: material science, radiation-material interactions, and polymer physico-chemistry. Applications from Newly Associated States fellows will be promoted. The supervision will be performed by DSI for the R&D and industrial applications and by UCL and CERTECH for academic aspect and basic science . The project outcomes and benefits for the Marie Curie Fellow are expected to be - training and R&D experience in the above described domains with the possibility of achieving a doctorate degree, publications/conference talks on he work and/or patents and participation to the development of a new service used in an industrial environment. Interested candidates should in the first instance contact: Mr. Th. Delvigne at Delta Services Industriels (DSI)
