GEOTHERMAL ENERGY FOR GREENHOUSE HEATING AT ASTEN

Objective

Production of geothermal water from the Berg sand formation at Asten ( south east of Netherlands) for existing greenhouses (7-8 Ha ).
Geothermal energy will cover about 78% of heating requirements for the primary and secondary circuits.
Existing natural gas installation used as back up. Reinjection well is required because of high salinity of the water. Annual energy saving amounts 1800 TOE and calculated payback is 11 years.

The final results of the extensive exploration programme carried out in November 1986 and March 1987 with DH XII support (EN 36/A-1 /140/NL) has given the following results:
Reservoir characteristics of the Berg sands are : depth: 1490-1510 m, temperature: 60 deg. C, productivity index: 0,7 m3/h/m, salinity: 20-40 g/l. The doublets consists of a vertical and a deviated well. There is a distance of 1400 m between the production and injection zone.
Total energy output of the doublet planned at 3,5 to 4 MW.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
