Objective
In Europe, nursing services represent 40-60% of the national healthcare budget, yet the impact of nursing care on the total quality of care for patients has never been evaluated. The goal of this project is to exploit systematically clinical nursing data stored in electronic patient records for clinical and resource management. This will allow a shift from individual knowledge to knowledge-sharing, which will lead in the end to better patient care. The project uses a workflow information model in which the diversity of the patient population, the variability of care, patient outcomes and nursing resources are quantified and made visible. WISECARE meets the needs of many nurse managers in Europe dealing with questions of nursing workload and nurse staffing for better quality care.
