Objective

The quest for a unified theory of all fundamental interactions (electro week, strong and gravitational), going beyond the so-called Standard Model of particle physics, has entered a crucial phase. The phenomenological studies of possible signals of new physics, at particle accelerators and elsewhere, have reached a high level of technical development and reliability, especially in the field of supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model, but still lack some firmer guiding principles. The field-theoretical studies of string theories and their generalizations, the present best candidates for a unified quantum theory of all the interactions (including gravity), have witnessed impressive developments in the last few years, with the development of new concepts such as non-perturbative dualities, D-branes, etc., but the phenomenological impact of these developments has not yet been worked out. We feel that the promotion of the cross talk between these two approaches is crucial to keep both of them healthy and to maximize their scientific output. The two high-level conferences being proposed want to achieve this goal by focussing on two hot and closely related topics in the present agenda of theoretical high-energy physicists: the flavour problem and the problem of supersymmetry breaking.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
