Euro Summer School "Galaxies at High Redshift"

Objective

It is difficult to find an Astrophysical problem which has experienced stronger progress in recent years than the studies of "Galaxies at High Redshift". The new technological developments and the observations made possible by them, such as the deep observations of the Hubble Deep Fields with the Hubblel Space Telescope and the impressive follow-up studies with all the largest telescopes available from the ground (Keck, VLT, VLA) and from Space (ISO) are responsible of the advance in this field. New wide-area surveys are becoming available (e.g. the Sloan Digital Sky Survey in the optical; FIRST, NVSS, and WENSS in the radio; ELAIS and FIRBACK in the mid- and far - IR, among many others) and allow the statistical of hundred of thousands of galaxies at all cosmic epochs. A comparable progress is being made by theorists in the interpretation of these discoveries. We have organised this School on "Galaxies at High Redshift" to cover such a progress in the under-standing of the High-redshift Universe by bringing together first-class researchers in this field with a selected group of Phd students and young Post-docs eager to broaden their knowledge in this important field of Astrophysics. In addition to the lectures, we plan to carry out hands-on training during two days at the Canarian Observatories where many of the discoveries in Observational Cosmology have been made.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
