EuroSummerSchool on "sc CO2 based Supercritical Fluids application": Chemistry and Materials

Objective

The leading position of the European industry in the field of the supercritical fluids separation techniques (extraction, chromatography, etc) establishes the precondition for the development of clean production technologies devoted to the substitution of hazardous industrial and processing materials, such as organic solvents and other harmful compounds. The object of the present proposal is the organisation of a Euro Summer School, providing researchers with an in-depth knowledge about supercritical fluids and the latest development and technological advances in SCF applications. The school, to be held in Palermo (Italy) in the first decade of May 2000, is structured into 5 days and 32 hours including lectures and a round table, plus informal exchange of view among participants and speakers. The school is targeted to 30 researchers, coming from European industrial research centres and university labs, who will have the opportunity to acquire and compare up-dated information about fundamentals and applications in this multidisciplinary sector.

The lecturers will come from different European countries (I, NL, D, B, EL, F) and have a broad experience and specific competence both in the theoretical aspects and in the application of the research area concerned. Therefore expected results consist in enlarging the awareness, within the scientific community, that green processes based on scCO2 are ready to move out the labs. This international school aims to be a forum to develop and critically evaluate efficient and environmentally benign production and processing techniques based on the scCO2, enabling young and experienced European researchers and technologists to exchange scientific information through a multidisciplinary approach. This opportunity will encourage and improve the scientific relations among researchers from different cultural (chemists, chemical engineers, technologists) and geographical areas. The opportunity to gather young and experienced researchers encourages the interaction between scientists and technologists bringing their experience from different disciplines to CO2 based environmentally friendly technology.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
