Conference for Advanced Inquiry in the Interactive Arts - Science, Technology and Art Research (CAiiA-STAR)

Objective

CAiiA-STAR 2000 aims to bring together advanced researchers in the fields of science, technology and multimedia art to explore the effects of the new multimedia and networking technologies on consciousness. Existing work undertaken by the CAiiA-STAR Research Centre has demonstrated the ability of young researchers to adapt to the field of consciousness, and work seamlessly between previously separate disciplines. It is anticipated that the development of Information and Communication Technologies will be significantly enhanced by the work of the conference. Innovation and Creativity in state of the art European science will be encouraged by the multidisciplinary nature of the conference.

The conference will include exploration of the fields of artificial intelligence, immersive virtual reality environments, robotics, and cognitive science. The use of advanced multimedia techniques on the internet, and the impact of cyberspace on the average citizen will also be explored. The conference aims to provide a unique opportunity for a diverse range of scientific and artistic fields to collaborate. This collaboration will inform the consciousness debate, and enable development of key strategies and awareness of theoretical and practical problems in the development of new multimedia technologies, which are otherwise ignored. The conference will advance European science through the consciousness debate, from which delegates will return to their respective disciplines with an enhanced view of the impact of their work, and potential outlets for scientific research which otherwise might not have been realised.
