Euro Summer School on Electron Crystallography 1,2 & 3

Objective

The schools provide the necessary theoretical background for understanding the physical process of electron scattering and imaging and give an introduction to the recent developments in theory and techniques for the determination of crystallographic structures by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) imaging and diffraction. Examples to be discussed range from inorganic materials in the field of technological development to applications of the techniques to polymers, organic crystals and biological macromolecules.

The lectures and training sessions will be given by internationally recognised experts to make sure that the diverse fields are introduced as follows: Image formation and diffraction; kinematical and dynamical theory; symmetry in real and reciprocal space; experimental techniques and detectors for data collection; data processing of HREM-images with Fourier processing and CTF-correction; evaluation of CBED patterns; 3D datamerging; phasing methods; constructing structure models in 2D and 3D; structure refinement and verification; analysis of defects and interfaces.
Each of the three planned EURO Summer Schools consists of four different parts: a set of basic lectures, a set of advanced lectures, a set of practical sessions and a poster session of the participants.
It is planned that the same speakers will give the basic lectures in the three Summer Schools. Varying speakers will be invited for the lectures on advanced and complementary subjects for the three different Summer Schools. All speakers are involved in state-of -the-art research and can give lectures about present issues in the various directions.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
