Objective
The "Network Young Membraines" is a PhD-student organisation founded in 1999 by the IVT in Aachen. The goal of NYM is to bring together creative people, who are currently researching membrane technology at University or in industry.
It is meant to create a communication platform on which membrane researchers can exchange ideas. This will serve to enhance knowledge and abilities as well as to build-up useful contacts in the field of membrane technology. Therefore by establishing a network of persons and knowledge the competitiveness of European research will be strengthened. Young Membraines who join this community will benefit from its advantages and synergistic effects.
The NYM consists of different activities such as annular meetings all over Europe, an internet-database containing an overview on the scientific work in this field of research, and excursions to membrane plants and companies improving the relationship between universities and industry. The "Network Young Membraines - Meeting 2000" as PhD EuroConference on membrane technology is a central part of this broad actions.
Membrane technology itself is already an important unit operation in industrial processes in several human related fields (e.g. waste water treatment, drinking water supply, chemical processes). In the future this innovative separation technology will even have an increasing importance in all areas of application due to the substantial need for further energy savings and protection of environmental resources for sustainable growth. This aim can only be achieved with a powerful international research work in Europe. Here the NYM will improve the training / education of young researchers giving Europe the chance to become the leading competitor in that key role technology world-wide.
