Glycobiology&medicine

Objective

Glycobiology is a relatively young field of research, which especially in the last decade, has shown to be of immense importance in health and disease. At the proposed High-Level Scientific Conference on Glycobiology and Medicine, the most recent findings will be presented regarding the important roles that carbohydrates and carbohydrate-binding proteins, (lectins) appear to play in development and maintenance of major chronic diseases like cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, infectious diseases and neurodegenerative disease, as well as in normal physiology.

In eight different sessions the state-of-the-art of the following aspects will be highlighted: glycosylation-dependent bacterial and viral infections, lectin and proteoglycan-dependent interactions in leukocyte homing processes to lymphoid tissues and inflamed tissues, congenital defects in glycosylation of glycoproteins and glycolipids, and the role of carbohydrates in tumour development and neuropathology, including Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

All invited speakers are established specialists in their field and a keynote speaker will introduce each session. The program will bring together researchers from the various edges of Glycobiology and Medicine, which is a unique opportunity to further integrate the research efforts in this important field.

Young researchers of Member and Associated States of the Community will present their results on posters. Six interesting posters will be elected for oral presentation. It is the aim of the proposed conference on Glycobiology and Medicine (a) to bring together the specialists that are exploring from different angles, the biological roles of glycoconjugates in health and disease and (b) to provide a platform for the presentation of various-state of-the-art aspects of Glycbiological research and to bring together young, established and new researchers eager to enter the field from both academia and industry and (c) to ensure cooperation between academia and industry exploiting the achieved scientific results.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
