Objective
Lisbon has been chosen by the Executive Committee of the IAMP for the organization of the next International Congress of Mathematical Physics (ICMP) in July 2003. Every 3 years, this Congress describes the advance of knowledge, worldwide, in Mathematical Physics and the new promising research directions. Around 1.000 participants can be expected and this will be the biggest scientific event ever organized in the Iberic Peninsula for this interdisciplinary field of research. In particular, it should stimulate considerably the local scientific activity and the social visibility of sciences in Portugal.
The programme of the ICMP is built by an International Scientific Committee, assisted by an Advisory Committee.
After the selection of the list of sessions, a chairman is chosen for each of them, this person being responsible for the particular session and its invited speakers. The plenary speakers, invited by the Scientific Committee, give each morning up to date reviews of their field, accessible to non specialists. The afternoon parallel sessions are, by nature, more specialized. Poster sessions synchronized with the parallel ones guarantee that each participant can interact constructively with many colleagues on his or her field of research.
