Reaction pathways in methanol oxidation over copper surfaces

Objectif

I know dr Andrzej Kudelski for a couple of years. He was one of my students at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Warsaw. I have been working with him since 1990. In 1990 he defended his Master of Science thesis, which has been done under my supervision. He conducted his research mainly in the field of surface enhanced Raman scattering spectroscopy. The main goal of his Ph.D.thesis performed under my supervision, was to estimate the contribution of the so-called chemical, short-range effect to total enhancement in the SERS and SERRS spectra. Two reviews of his Ph.D. thesis were enthusiastic and both referees recommended dissertation to an award. Dr Kudelski is co-author of 36 papers published in the international journals recognized allover the world. Almost all of them have been written in cooperation with me, but his contribution to our common papers ranges from 20% to 80%.Dr Kudelski is a talented and dedicated scientist who creatively contributes to the science in our laboratory. His main scientific interest is Raman spectroscopy of the molecules at the surfaces but he also has a broad experience in EPR spectroscopy. He effectively cooperates with a group of electrochemists participating in the investigation of the conducting polymers. Dr Kudelski is an unusually nice and warm person and I believe that everybody at the Department of Chemistry, University of Warsaw would share my opinion. In my opinion he belongs to upper 10% of the young fellows in our Department. Research project being a subject of his application seems to be very interesting for authorities of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Warsaw because the heterogeneous catalysis is rather poorly represented in the Department. As far as I know, there is an urgent need to train our staff in this domain. I hope that after stay in Fritz-Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society dr Kudelski will be able to contribute very effectively to this field of research. I am sure that he will actively participate in formation of a new team working in the field of catalysis in our Department. In conclusion, dr Kudelski is an open-minded scientist with very good perspectives in the future and I strongly support his application for Marie Curie Fellowship.
