Objective
The Forest Botanical Institute offers Marie Curie training positions for PhD students who would like to gain new experiences and acquire new knowledge in the area of "Applied Environmental Research in Wood Product Biotechnologies". We invite applicants to stay for three months up to one year at the training site and conduct high-quality research projects in areas of the development of new wood products (the biotechnological potential of lignins and lignin-copolymers, use of modified fungi) or by replacing energy-consuming and petrochemically based production steps by biotechnological methods. The training will include detailed chemical and biotechnological work. The language is English. We offer excellent research facilities in the modern laboratories of the training site and practical in close interaction with industrial partners. In addition, we have devised a PhD program on a flexible, modular basis. The modules can be chosen to the specific interest of the applicant. We are an interdisciplinary team of researchers with a background in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, wood anatomy, wood modification, and plant physiology. We expect that applicants have experience in at least one of these areas and are interested in extending their knowledge and experience for their future career. The training site is localized at the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology of the University of Göttingen. The research fellow will enjoy the full scientific and social benefits of a renowned research university with strong international links. Interested students should contact Prof. Dr. A. Polle for further details (apolle@gwdg.de).
