Strings, branes and boundary conformal field theory

Objective

The Theoretical Physics Group at King's College London invites applications for postgraduate fellowships to be held at the EU Marie Curie Training Site "Strings, Branes and Boundary Conformal Field Theory".
The research topics covered by this programme include the following:
* strings and branes: their geometric and their world-sheet descriptions (calibrations resp. boundary CTF)
* branes in curved backgrounds (in particular group manifolds and Calabi-Yau spaces)
* non-commutativity in brane physics and string theory
* non-BPS branes
* branes in supergravity and M-theory
* higher-dimensional super conformal field theories and AdS/CFT correspondence
* (boundary) CFT and two-dimensional integrable QFTs, structure of RG flows. Members of the King's College Theory Group include Matthias Gaberdiel, Paul Howe, Neil Lambert, George Papadopoulos, Andreas Recknagel, Alice Rogers, Gerard Watts and Peter West, the postdoctoral fellows Kilian Koepsell and Frederik Roose, and about seven graduate students. The Marie Curie Training Site programme will cover stays lasting from 3 to 12 months (with slight preference given to longer stays). Candidates must be citizens of an EU or associated state, and must be registered for a Ph. D. in a country other than the UK. Financial benefits for the fellows will include a monthly allowance of 1200 Euro, reimbursement of travel costs and tuition fees. Those interested should contact Dr Andreas Recknagel (e-mail anderl@mth.kcl.ac.uk).For further details, see also www.mth.kcl.ac.uk. Equality of opportunity is College Policy. Female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
