Processes using sub- and supercritical fluids

Objectif

The researcher can take part in the following research programme: - extraction / fractionation of active components from natural materials;
- solubility determinations of solids and liquids in dense gasses (CO2, propane, butane, dimethylether) by static analytic or a flow method;
- determination of the S-L-G equilibrium curve of a solid component in the presence of a compressed gas;
- modeling of phase equilibrium data by density based correlations or by equations of state in binary and ternary systems;
- mass transfer studies and modeling of extraction curves;
- study of enzyme(s) residual activity in dense gases;
- enzymatic reactions in dense gases (esterifications and hydrolysis, protein synthesis and hydrolysis, enzyme-catalyzed resolution of chiral compounds) in high pressure enzymatic batch stirred tank and continuous packed bed reactor, where reactions can be catalyzed by immobilized or native enzymes. The use of native enzymes can also be performed in the continuous stirred membrane reactor, with integrated reaction and separation zones; - materials processing using dense gasses, which is one of the most attractive use of supercritical fluids today which gives high added value products with completely new properties, which can be influenced by the process parameters. PGSS process has many advantages over other processes for fine particle formation: versatile process applicable for several substances, moderate pressures, low gas consumption, solvent-free powders, suitable for high viscous or sticky products, fine powders with narrow size distribution, different morphologies, easy scale-up. Aerogels have proved as excellent carriers for bio and metal catalysts. Such catalysts shoved high outstanding activity and/or high selectivity for same high pressure/high temperature reactions. The studies of different metal and different enzyme supported aerogel catalysts are offered for investigation.
