Objective
The European Infrastructures active in the field of structural biology propose to create a Cooperation Network named "The European Structural Biology Forum (ESBF)". The network consists of ten infrastructures access to which is supported under the IHP programme, plus several representatives of users of these infrastructures, and an industrial company. The network intends to improve coordination between structural biology infrastructures specialized in X-ray crystallography/synchrotron radiation, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and electron microscopy. Thus, all three modern techniques available today for the determination of the 3D structures of biological macromolecules will be represented. The ESBF will generate critical mass for research into future instrumentation at the infrastructures and encourage complimentarity between them. It will discuss the emergence of "structural genomics" and the necessary response.
