Objective
GEOMAR, the Research Centre for Marine Geosciences of Kiel University (CAU) pursues basic environmental research in the broadest sense. GEOMAR is composed of four scientific divisions (Marine Geodynamics, Volcanology and Petrology, Paleoceanology, and Marine Environmental Geology). The scientific divisions of GEOMAR are characterised by their global perspective, by the multitude of scientific problems, and by the attempt to reach an integrated understanding of the marine geoprocesses. The Marine Geodynamics Department of GEOMAR, Kiel, Germany focuses research on tectonic processes shaping the Earth's crust and upper mantle.
Most research is accomplished using seismic data, which offer the best resolution of subsurface structure. We offer access to state-of-the-art marine seismic reflection data processing software operated on a network of more than 20 workstations. GEOMAR computer facilities are by their size, functionality, and sophistication unique in the European academic community, as no one has such devoted software for analysis and processing of seismic data. Also, we offer access to our Ocean Bottom Hydrophones and Seismometers (OBH/S). The GEOMAR OBH/S has received a world-wide recognition since it has been put into service because of its reliability, data capacity, and cost effectiveness. The system currently consists of 60 instruments, several data recovery and transcription systems, and workstations equipped with the necessary software and peripherals for onboard processing. Visiting scientist will be guided by experienced personnel through the different seismic data processing steps and also onboard research vessels during OBH/S data acquisition.
Applications can be send at any time, and user selection will be made approximately twice per year. We therefore have specific deadlines for applications that are posted in journals, at meetings and can be found on our web-page: http://www.geomar.de/sci_dpmt/geodyn/ihp_web.html(opens in new window)

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
