Access to large-scale tests in the large wave channel (gwk) of forschungszentrum küste (fzk)

Objective

The research facility LARGE WAVE CHANNEL (GWK) of the Coastal Research Centre (FZK) is one of the largest facility of its kind world wide (309 m long, 5 m wide, 7 m deep). It is used for large-scale experiments on research topics related to Coastal and Ocean Engineering. In the past research has been performed on coastal structures (dikes, breakwaters, revetments etc.), offshore structures (cylinders, pipes etc.) and wave-induced sediment transport (dune erosion, shoreline protection etc.). Wave heights up to 2.5 m can be generated with a maximum water depth of 5 m. State-of-the-art wave generation and absorption control are available including irregular and freak wave generation. This also includes state-of-the-art measuring and recording instruments, data acquisition, processing and analysis systems. The EC supported Access to the GWK within the Access to Research Infrastructures action of the Improving Human Potential Programme has started on 1st. of May 2002 and has a duration of 22 months. The offered total amount of access is 50 experimental days and the number of individual users who will benefit from this access is estimated to 12.

Application:

Interested researchers are invited to submit an one-page proposal to the Coastal Research Centre (FZK). After reception of the one-page proposal potential users will receive detailed information for further submitting a model set-up and test procedure for the proposed project. As a result from a feasibility check done by the FZK with cooperative discussions on possible improvements, a more detailed final proposal, including the details of the experimental set-up, required measuring techniques and test procedures, should be submitted. The final proposals will be peer-reviewed by an User Selection Panel which will be composed of independent external experts and facility experts. This Panel will recommend a shortlist to be submitted to the EC for approval. The approved users will be invited to visit the facility for a training course before performing their own project.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
