Objective
This proposal is for an Accompanying Measure to address Area 2 of the Raising Public Awareness call for proposals of April 2001. Television programmes are one of the most powerful ways of communicating about science and drama can present issues in human terms of very large audiences. Television writers control therefore a major route by which the general public notably the young, can be exposed to science. Practices across Europe vary greatly and this project uses action research to explore and appraise the attitudes of writers and broadcasters to science in drama by analyzing TV output across Europe and by inviting writers to present new ideas for TV drama involving science. The project will bring outstand promote best practice, building on successful projects including the Euro Fiction project, the colloquia of the Paris International Science TV Festival and the UK based PAWS (Public Awareness of Science) project.
