Ocean as a link between research and citizen's concern

Objective

OCEANICS aims at developing new approaches to improve science communication about sustainability issues toward the public at large. European science mediation centres with complementary audiences and objectives, such as aquariums, science and natural history museums, zoos, will launch a survey to evaluate the citizens' awareness about Ocean and environment issues. From the survey, they will create with scientist's new information prototypes and events responding to the public concern for Ocean and sustainability, thus enhancing the link between research and everyday life. The prototypes will be displayed in OCEANICS venues, and evaluated by the public. The survey, the information conveyed, the results of the project will be shared with other museums as well as with scientific bodies and decision-makers in order to improve science communication and match to the public concern for Ocean, environment and sustainability.
