Co-ordinating competencies and knowledge in the european automobile system

Objective

The thematic network will analyse the structural changes occurring within the European automobiles system, both in the organisation of production (i.e. the new role of system integrators in upstream activities, the effects of environmental regulation) and in the area of services (non-visible activities). These changes imply the emergence of new competencies and knowledge, and a new configuration of the automobile system: the competitiveness of the auto industry increasingly depends on the efficient co-ordination of competencies and knowledge by the way of inter-firm co-operation. To evaluate these changes, the CoCKEAS network will bring together 13 academic institutions (from 8 European countries) that will share their analyses, debate the new trends and elaborate a common methodology for systematic empirical surveys - including comparisons with the rest of the World.
Representatives from industry will be involved in this scientific programme, and the political implications will be identified and discussed.
