Objective
This project aims to advance knowledge in labour politics by focusing on the 'contentious politics of unemployment', i.e. the relationship between political institutional approaches to employment policy and political conflicts mobilized by collective actors over unemployment in the public domain.
Key objectives.
(a) To generate original data for longitudinal (1990-2002) and comparative (F, D, I, S, CH, UK) analyses of ideological and policy positions of actors and their relationships;
(b) to investigate the potential for participation of civil society actors in deliberation which favours social dialogue with policy actors;
(c) to study the interaction between EU institutions and national policy domains, and how this may offer political opportunities for the empowerment of citizens.
Original data on the political claim making in this field are backed up by interviews with key actors in the organizational field at the national and trans-national levels.
