Objective
The project is focussed on the impact of technological change, globalisation and tertiarisation on the dynamics of the labour market in Europe. We aim to investigate the interplay between the rise of information and communication technologies (ICTs), the globalisation process and the rise of business services in promoting the technological integration of the EU economy and in affecting employment. In particular we will study the role of regional integration in technology diffusion, growth performance, and employment and how the poor performance of Europe in the new technologies has contributed to the high rates of unemployment. By analysing the relationship between innovation and job creation we aim to offer an effective base for the implementation of policies related to the newly launched Community action. To establish a strong knowledge based economy as a way to improve competitiveness and employment.
