Changes in regulation modes and social production of inequalities in education systems : a european comparison.

Objective

This research aims at understanding and comparing the evolution of public regulation modes for 5 secondary education systems. It will particularly study the way in which these evolutions affect local processes producing hierarchy, inequality and school segregation.
The goal is twofold :
to understand the evolution of national regulation modes,
but also to observe how they are implemented at "local" levels.
We understand by regulation modes the variable and complex means by which public authority orientates and co-ordinate action in a sector of society (e.g. State ruling, market mechanisms, communities, organisational hierarchy). The countries analysed are Great Britain (England), Belgium (The French-Speaking Community of Belgium), France, Hungary and Portugal.
