Objective
The role and potential of the social economy, in particular the work integration social enterprise, as an active labour market approaches to combating unemployment and creating employment has received increasing attention by policy makers. An innovative organisational form that incorporates an entrepreneurial dynamic alongside social objectives, preliminary research has examined the existence, services provided and characteristics of these social enterprises. Key questions have emerged concerning the beneficiaries of work integration social enterprises given their multi-stakeholder nature, their specific resource mix and their sustainability due to their evolution in organisational form. The PERSE project brings together leading academics in the social economy field to conduct an empirical and theoretical analysis of these key questions in respect of work integration social enterprises.
