Objective
The Seattle failure has demonstrated the urgency for Europe to make new sustainable trade policy proposals in the World Trade Organisation. Such proposal will have to be consistent, credible and legitimate both with respect to Europe's trading partners and with respect to its domestic civil society.
The network gathers European economists, sociologists, law specialists and political scientists who will collaborate, together with NGOs and European policy-makers, to analyse the following interrelated themes:
the use of the global public good concept to analyse the interdependencies between economic and sustainability objectives in trade;
the legitimacy of sustainable impact assessment procedures;
the architecture of the international institutional system governing trade and sustainability;
the political acceptability of trade reforms within Europe;
and the civil society participation to the trade decision-making process within Europe.
