Higher education reform network: a collaborative partnership to explore, disseminate and advise on the university of tomorrow - in relation to societal change and lifelong learning needs and in the context of european enlargement

Objective

The proposal aims to provide policy developers with a better understanding of the relationship between tomorrow's university and societal changes across Europe in the lead up to EU enlargement. It argues that HE needs to be responsive to, as well as stimulate, new perspectives for learning in this context. It analyses past and presents social trends, structural changes influencing HE in each country, values underlying evolving strategies and the extent to which HEIs perceive their social responsibilities towards Europe. The network explores these questions through an innovative matrix of domains. (Society, governance, teaching and learning and change); strategies: (for inclusion, a regional role and employability) and concepts: (of citizenship, EU integration, lifelong learning and technology as a means to learn). The network's core activities will be a term seminar series, interactive website and database resulting in policy briefing papers and new research collaborations. Membership of the network consists of international consultants, researchers, policy leaders and practitioners with involvement in extensive dissemination infrastructures.
