Innovative structures for the sustainable development of mountainous areas

Objective

The current proposal combines:
i) a number of small-scale studies carried out on mountainous areas in which general data on the evolution, current state and expected future of respective mountainous areas, types of (professional) activities, experience concerning co-operation for local development and mechanisms / structures facilitating it with emphasis on action-research and participative methodologies, and needs in terms of support (policies, research etc) in realizing their endogenous potentialities will be outlined,
ii) a Workshop in order to elaborate on them with emphasis on innovative mechanisms promoting sustainable mountainous development, along with the publication of working papers & summery proceedings, and
iii) a Conference, with the participation of experts on mountainous & sustainable development as well as relevant policy makers, to set out the general guidelines for the structuring of such mechanisms, followed by a publication.
