Objective
This research project aims to produce a systematic analysis of the possibilities and potential impacts of introducing internet-voting mechanisms for the European parliamentary elections. We define internet voting as a procedural means for the electorate to cast its vote by using a computerized system that is accessible from the internet. The key point in the definition is the use of the internet as a technological platform. To this end an international conference is proposed to bring together leading scholars and practitioners in order to stimulate new knowledge and novel ideas in this emerging research field. The conference will also provide the opportunity to present new empirical findings concerning ongoing research projects and will provide a solid basis for formulating a subsequent research project to be submitted for the community framework programme.
