Objective
The proposal is to form a network of researchers examining the formation, functioning and performance of networks in the economy. Theoretical, empirical, simulation and policy research will be done, the goal being to advance the state of knowledge and to disseminate research findings and methodologies to a wider research community, and policy implications to policy makers. The network will produce working papers and a final volume. The topic of networks in the economy's extremely timely, particularly given its centrality in future European science and technology policy. The network involves a broad variety of researchers representing different approaches to the issues, whose interaction will create important synergies and cross-fertilization. By including researchers of different backgrounds, generating state of the art results the network will serves a central node in the wider community of research on the economics of networks.
