Objective
Global Systems and Policy Design for the European Research Area (GLOSPERA) is an ambitious proposal to strengthen the scientific basis for European negotiating postures on international agreements on trade, environmental protection, public health and sustainable development, and on research cooperation itself. GLOSPERA will undertake a set of four case studies of global-scale research programmes as the European component of a concerted action in which related studies are conducted in North America and the Far East. A network of European experts in international research and political systems will be constructed to analyse the implications of globalisation for policies to maximise European access to worldwide knowledge and innovation resources. The results of GLOSPERA will contribute both to improving European research and innovation capacity, and to harnessing European scientific and technological expertise in support of policy design for global systems.
