Centres of european scientific excellence in industrial-relevant research areas

Objective

The proposed project concerns the development, verification and analytical use of quantitative data and indicators to explore and establish the current relevance of European public sector research institutes and universities as sources of scientific knowledge for RTD in the corporate sector. The information is derived from: (1) research papers in the international journals, and (2) international patents. Analyses focus on the contribution of those organisation in selected scientific sub fields characterised by relatively high levels of corporate sector research or significant corporate interest in academic research, especially basic research. In- depth analyses deal with selected emerging research themes ("hot topics") in those sub fields. Expert-verified results are used to identify and compare these (potential) European centres of scientific excellence.
