Web indicators for scientific, technological and innovation research

Objective

The internet and the Web play an increasingly important role in research. As a consequence , an increasing part of scientific research is not (or only partially) measurable by traditional S&T indicators. The objective of this research proposal is to explore the possibilities and problems in developing a new generation of Web based S&T indicators. Web indicators should produce information about crucial aspects of e-science. international collaboration through the Web; visibility and connectivity of research centres; innovation networks; gender relationships; and the emergence of the European Research Area. Quantitative measurement of Web activities based on advanced info metric methods will be combined with qualitative case studies about changing knowledge production and with traditional S&T indicators. A Best Practice Manual on Web Indicators is one of the products that will be delivered.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.
