CONSTRUCTION OF SHP GUNZESRIED WITH A PRESSURE PIPE KAPLAN-S TUBE TURBINE WITH 6 BLADE RUNNER

Objective

The project aim is to demonstrate the new construction of a low head run-of-river hydro scheme at Gunzesried/Aubach equipped with a novel Pressure-Pipe Kaplan-S-Tube Turbine with a six-Blade runner. Special attention is paid to the arrangement of the plant outside of a narrow gorge, using a penstock with a lenght of some 100 m, concentrating the relatively high head (12 m) in front of the turbine. With specially developed runner geometry the turbine generator set displays a very flexible solution for this special application.
Technical data: number of turbines = l, net head = 12,0 m, rated discharge = 4 m3/s, max. capacity = 398 kW.
Estimated total annual energy production: 1 363 000 kWh.

- First application of a 6-blade pressure pipe Kaplan-S-Turbine concerning
the head of 12 m and a widely varying flow up to 4 m3/s.
- Specially developed runner geometry adapted to the given head and flow as
well as to the arrangement of the turbine generator set.
- Improved overall efficiencies by direct coupling of turbine and generator. - Bearing of guide vane and runner blades with oil-free lubrication.
- Specially developed guide vane assembly to minimize silt infiltration and abrasion of turbine runner.
- Coated suction tube for improving noise reduction.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
